Roc Nation Sued Over 'Hugo' Name

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation is being sued by a New York-based artist named Hugo, who says that one of Roc Nation's signees is an artist that is using his name. Jon Hugo Ungar filed the lawsuit in United States District Court, Central District of California and claims that the performed as "Hugo" for more than a decade.

Roc Nation has signed a Thai/British artist named Hugo, born Hugo Chakrabongse Levy.

Ungar says that the similarity has created confusion in the marketplace. He has been booked at the CMJ Music Marathon and the festival website linked to Hugo Levy's site as opposed to Ungar's. He is suing for federal trademark infringement, unfair competition and requesting a judge to bar the use of Roc Nation's Hugo's name.
